Message from the Director: Welcome to our new web site!
June 2004

Welcome to the new Los Alamos Study Group web site. It's definitely a work in progress, with many a rough patch remaining and some pages barely sketched in, but we are very happy to have this new framework in which to grow. We had long outgrown our old site, which used now-obsolete coding techniques and was very cumbersome to update. The primary designer-builders of the new site have been Michael Spies, Darwin BondGraham, and Trish Williams-Mello, with assistance from Paula Olivares, Janice St. Marie, and Zia Mian. Effusive thanks to all of you! The unfinished areas are now largely separable projects, and each can be improved in turn as resources allow. Be patient - or volunteer to help!

We will be using this site to communicate breaking news and updates, updating it much more frequently than our old site - weekly, at a minimum. Depending on your level of interest you may want to check it out from time to time!

We hope you will also subscribe to our main email list-serve, which we use to broadcast succinct announcements of Study Group events, citizen involvement opportunities, and important new web site content. It's free, and we won't send out alerts more than once per week. Neither will we you emailed news, analysis, or opinion - that's posted here. To subscribe, send a blank email to lasg-subscribe@lists.riseup.net. And let your friends know!

Most of all, I'd like to invite you to join in our work. It's a pivotal time in nuclear history, nationally and internationally. It is also a pivotal time in New Mexico's nuclear history, a time when our state is silently drifting toward deeper identification with its nuclear-military industries. Our state is now America's primary workshop for nuclear weapons; 46% of the U.S. budget for nuclear weapons is spent here. And our nuclear role is growing.

We are resisting these developments in several ways, and could definitely use your support, both financial and in every other way. Thanks to generous donors, all financial contributions will for now be doubled by matching funds, so your financial participation is particularly valuable right now. You can contribute using our secure portal under "Contribute!" above, or by check. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization; all contributions are fully tax-deductible.
