Location: Technical Area (TA) -54

Period of use: October 1957 to present

Size: 63 acres

Number and type of disposal units:

Pits (36):  vary between 30 to 100 feet by 400 to 600 feet by 20 to 45 feet

Shafts (193):  vary between 1 to 6 feet in diameter and 25 to 60 feet deep

Trenches (4):  vary between 13 by 219 feet to 262.5 by 6 feet to 8 feet
Specific wastes and quantities:
Estimated volume: 10,800,000 ft3, including many different radionuclides
Potential environmental impacts:
Pajarito Canyon and Canada del Buey New Mexico Environment Department's (NMED) Hazardous and Radioactive Material Bureau (HRMB) ranks this MDA as an area with a high probability of contaminant mobilization and a moderate to high potential of release to the groundwater.
Other pertinent information:
MDA G is LANL's LLW disposal site. LANL hopes to expand this area by 66 acres into an area with Indian ruins on it.
